Since counting sleepers has a lot in common with counting sheep or indeed rivets, I'd like to know if there's a canny way of getting Templot to count the total number of sleepers of a layout designed in Templot? By the same taken, can Templot measure how much rail I'm going to need? I appreciate I'll lose a fair amount of rail in off-cuts making turnouts.

Kind regards and happy Easter

Andrew,

You should waste almost no rail at all in making turnouts. All it takes is a little planning.  I assume you use full metre lengths for your stock rails, so there will be no waste there.  Individual parts for common crossings, closure, switch and check rails seem to aggregate into almost metre lengths - as least it does when I make trackwork.  If there are any odd bits left, they can always be used around the layout.

Rail is not expensive - I am currently giving it away free. Bbut whatever the cost, we should strive to minimise waste.

Regards

Brian Lewis
