Dear all, There seems to be a problem in the latest update to Firefox (2.0.0.6) in finding page anchors. Click a link to a specific message, such as: topic 117 - message 611 (currently the most recent message in the Fremington topic, Rextanka, Aug 14th) If the page is not in the cache, the page first comes up in the wrong place. Only if you then click Reload does it finally find the correct message anchor. This seems to be worse in long topics containing image attachments. It's a great nuisance if you want to use the link in an email to go to the forum to reply. Is anyone else seeing this? Is anyone still using an earlier version of Firefox for comparison? I'm sure it was working fine until recently. IE and Opera seem to be working ok and find the correct message anchor first time. regards, Martin. |

Er - I thought that was just the way the forum worked! (Also using 2.0.0.6). I didn't realise it was a bug as such, and just either hit the "End" button or use the "Page Down" button. |

Safari Version 2.0.4 (build 419.3) on Mac OS X 10.4.10 also has this problem. I'll log a bug when I get to work after checking to see of it's also in Leopard. Same thing happens with RMWeb so I think it's browser rather than Forum software, since RMWeb and Templot Club seem to use different software. HtH Nick |

Paul Boyd wrote: Er - I thought that was just the way the forum worked! (Also using 2.0.0.6).Hi Paul, Thanks for confirming it's not just me. It's definitely a bug in Firefox, I've just noticed the same problem on the RMweb site. On this forum the message anchor is the time and date on each message (top left). If you hover your mouse over it in Firefox you will see it becomes underlined, but is not clickable. This shows you that it is an anchor. The browser should scroll the page until the relevant anchor is at the top of the visible area. If you click the Reload button, it does exactly that. Also if you have previously viewed the page and it is already in your cache. But it's supposed to do it first time! If you can bear to change your default browser to IE for a moment, and then click a forum link in an email, you will see that it goes correctly to the relevant message anchor first time. It's very annoying! regards, Martin. |

RMweb is using phpBB software (free). Templot Club is using WowBB software (not free ). But they are both PHP-based and no doubt very similar. However, the anchors are coded entirely normally as A NAME="xxx" tags and should work. Firefox appears to be calculating the anchor positions before it's finished loading all the images and finalized the page layout. Forcing a reload causes it to re-calculate correctly -- this is fairly conclusive proof that the problem is in the browser rather than the page source. If the page was wrong no amount of reloading it would display it correctly. regards, Martin. |
