Ladies & Gentlemen, I am finally getting a round to planning a layout to run my 12mm gauge 4mm scale models of the Rye and Camber Tramway on (Nonneminstre models kits). Is there any "accepted" standard for 12mm 4mm scale track work? many thanks Richard Jones |

Hi Richard, Track standards to use depends on the wheels the locos and stock will be fitted with I guess. There are track plans for 2 of the line's 3 stations on : http://www.colonelstephenssociety.co.uk/RCT.html The OO9 society has members who model 3' gauge lines in 4mm scale. Sorry if you already know the above. It could be a nice historical project. Are you doing all 3 stations ? Rob |

Hi Rob, My thoughts at the moment were just to do Rye - I have Laurie Cooksey's Centenary History of the Rye and Camber which also has the layouts in (plus my drawings for the 2 steam locos and the Bagnall coach) I have thought about doing a Rye Town with interchange to the projected KESR extension to Rye, but if I take that approach would re-route the KESR down the Rother valley with a terminus behind the row of houses on Military Road, effectively at right angles to the SECR main line. I also have a model of Northiam on the go in EM, and hope to make some tangible progress over the next few months - other commitments permitting. Thanks for your help and suggestions Richard ps Great Grandfather (E P S Jones) built one of the coaches for the R+C |

Richard, Yes, all sounds very nice. I like that part of the world although haven't been down for a good while. If you ever get to Tenterden I suggest a trip to the top of the tower at St.Mildred's Church just off the High Street. The view is lovely, oast houses everywhere. I had the book you mention a few years back but sold it for some reason. Mind you if I had kept all the railway books I ever had I would need a house extension by now... I very much like light railways in the Stephen's style but I never modelled one, mainly I suspect as the stock demands are not high enough to justify all my purchases! Best of luck with the layout plans. Rob |

Just in case anyone else is on the search for them... 3SMR (who can be found at http://www.3smr.co.uk ) can supply 12mm track gauges and B-B gauges.... No excuse not to build the track now.... best wishes Richard |
