Is it possible to sort the list of background shapes into alphabetical order of name?

I am trying to use Templot to produce a track diagram of my garden railway, and I would like to show the positions of the posts supporting the layout. However there are 110 of them, and I don't want to enter them all at once in numerical order (44 to 61 are going in first) so it would be nice to enter them in random order and sort them later.

Hi Jane,

Sorry, there isn't any means to sort the order of the background shapes which are already in the list.

However, when entering a new shape, it is entered below the one currently highlighted in the list. So for example if you already have posts numbers 53 and 55 in the list, you can enter post number 54 between them by first selecting number 53 in the list.

An alphanumerical sort function wouldn't be too difficult to implement. Could you please post a note in the "I wish it would..." forum so that I don't overlook it? Thanks.

regards,

Martin.

Hi, Martin

I figured out a way to generate a file containing the shapes, given the post numbers and their coordinates. Similarly I figured out how to sort an existing file.

<cheeky>
Any chance of getting a copy of the .bgs file layout, to see if I got it right?

Best wishes.

Hi Jane,

Sorry, no.

I'd like to help, but the source code for Templot is not for publication. You are of course free to edit your BGS files externally to Templot in any way you choose. If you do that, please keep in mind the terms of the Templot licence and the fact that the BGS file format is my intellectual property.

Alternatively, don't forget that you can import and export DXF files to/from the background shapes. You may find it easier to define, edit or sort the fixing-post entities in a CAD program.

regards,

Martin.
