I chose to create a PDF file of just a couple of pages in order to print out of a template for a point that spans two pages.

The initial PDF file created OK and, upon examining it I realised that I needed to change the timber spacings slightly on the adjacent track. I switched back to Templot and overlooked to close the PDF file.

I managed to start the PDF (re-)creation but the process stopped with the (error) message Error in BeginDoc. As soon as I realised what was wrong I closed the original PDF file and was once again able to (re-)create a new file.

I just wondered whether the error message could be worded to indicate exactly what the error was.

Hi Ray,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

Thanks for the report. Presumably you were creating the second file with the same file name as the first one?

Generally when creating files from Templot I recommend using the unique file name which Templot suggests, which includes a time-stamp in the name. It's easy to rename them and delete unwanted files later, but not to recover files which were inadvertently overwritten. :)

The BeginDoc function is part of the PDF engine. So unless I pay about £1500 for the source code, I have no means to modify it or add meaningful error messages. Sorry about that.

I have purchased the source for the other external components used in Templot, and in some cases heavily modified it. But for the PDF engine it was too expensive and we must settle for the compiled component as-is.

regards,

Martin.

Martin

Thanks for the welcome and the response.

All understood about the costs! I must admit that I try to re-cycle file names when I can as it saves on the housework task later. I'll just have to try to remember to close existing files of the same name (in any application) when I want to re-use the file name again.
