I know the topic of jigs seems to be a recurrent one. The EMGS jigs seem to be out of stock for the foreseeable future, so I am wondering what other options there are available. Initially I am looking for a jig for filing code 55 FB rail, but eventually my next layout will need code 75 BH. I am after both V filing jigs and blade jigs (9mm gauge and 16.5mm gauge).
What are my options?

Do you actually need a filing jig? I use a homemade jig for assembling Vs, basically small bits of hardwood shaped and stuck down to a bit of Templotted template for the angle in question, but find it fairly easy to do the filing by trial and error. I do have a filing jig (GW Models I think) but it's a bit restrictive in only doing 4 angles. It can also be used for assembling the V, but in my view the slots holding the rails are too far apart, so it's possible to get the rail flexing too much when the two rails meet.

Cheers
Nigel

Upto now I have been using a dremel to cut the V's by eye. But I am looking for a way to speed up the production of turnouts.

Julia,
In this topic

I included a pic of my home made jig which I knocked up in a morning - it works perfectly well and should be easy enough to copy.  It certainly speeds things up - though I managed well enough without for several decades!

Best wishes,

Howard

Scalefour Stores have jigs for filing both vees and point blades. I have used them extensively for the pointwork on Pen Mill.

Not cheap but they work fine and TFG members with no previous of point building have been able to produce good vees and blades.

Hello,
I have just been on the EM gauge society web page and both jigs are listed as being in stock.
I think you may need to be a member to gain access though.
