Attached are some photos that I took today at the Echills Wood Railway a 7 1/4 inch line that runs in Kingsbury Water Park in North Warwickshire showing a turnout ready for installation where not only is it the switch that is moveable but also the nose of the crossing.  All of the other turnouts on this line are conventional so why the change for this application I don't know.

Hi Brian,

A friend of mine is a very active member at Kingsbury and he has now provided some information on these turnouts at Kingsbury. They work to the 7 1/4 Society Narrow Gauge standard which is quite coarse but will cater for a wide variety of prototypes. They also have a back to back variation of about 5/16" depending on the prototype modelled. This in turn requires quite a large gap between the heel of the crossing rail and the nose of the vee and these turnouts are designed to reduce this to a minimum to give smoother running.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the information as of Friday, the turnouts were still not fitted. I can understand the reason for these modified turnouts in order to provide better support for the wheels over the crossing especially if as you say they have to provide for a range of wheel standards. Perhaps this is a trial as all other turnouts that I have seen on their quite extensive system are of standard design. Also these new turnouts appear to be power operated hence the drive motors and the limit switches on the switch blades and the crossings.
Thanks again
