Hi Martin,

Sorry to be the proverbial pain in the you know what, but I have downloaded Firefox, and find I cannot log in on the Templot Club site.

The Firefox down load was version 28.0, and I checked to see if suitable for Win 7.

The only comment on the Mozella site was, that although Firefox would run on Win 7 32 & 64 bit OS's , only the 32 bit version was supported.

The program appears to have installed OK.

Now as to my problem, I can browse the Templot club site as normal, without logging in, but as expected, I cannot post a message.

When I try to log in on the site, I fill in the usual login box with the correct details, i.e. my user name and password.

When I click the LOGIN button, it goes away and to all in tents, it has logged me in, as there is no login failure message at all.

However, when I look at the top left hand corner, I find I have not actually logged in at all, and again cannot post any messages, as I get the "sorry...." message if I try to do so.

Now I can successfully login to my internet provider site Sky site, perfectly OK and can access my emails also.

So, have you any ideas what the Templot login issue may be ?

All the best,

Brian.

Hi Brian,

This sounds like a cookie problem. The first thing to try is clicking this link:

Hi Martin,

I don't know if it means anything, but if I look in the Firefox tag for Templot, it states for the login as follows:

85a.co.uk/forum/my_account.php?edit_profile=1

I hope this helps

All the best,

Brian Nicholls.

Hi Martin,

See attached screenshot as requested.

The Tag (or perhaps I should say TAB) is the Templot tab, and if you look along the web address line at the top under the tab, you will see a little 'down arrow' symbol.

If you left click on that down arrow, you will open a menu on the left which shows the list of entries for that tab.

All the best,

Brian.

Thanks Brian.

That's normal. It means you clicked the My Account button while not logged in. That page then redirected to the login page.

What happens if you go directly to the login? Close and restart Firefox, and then click this link:

The final screenshot, shows the "saved Passwords menu", you can see Templot is in there.

Also when I click on the "Show Password" button, it illustrates the correct password for my Templot login.

For obvious reasons I have not taken a screenshot of that event.

All the best,

Brian.

Hi Martin,

The results:

Part 1. click directly on the login site reference. ........ Is exactly the same, i.e. cannot log in.

Part 2. Close down and restart Firefox the click the link http://85a.co.uk/forum/login.php. ................ I open a tab for Templot, then in the site address area, I pasted in the link you suggested, then clicked the refresh button, it then displayed the usual Templot log in menu, which I then entered the details and clicked the LOGIN button, Unfortunately it gave the same result, I did not log in.

So as they say, "back to the drawing board".

All the best,

Brian.

It is something to do with your cookie settings, or maybe your antivirus software.

Brian please try IE11 again. I have made some changes. Users of IE11 should now see the same posting editor as Firefox -- you could perhaps post a screenshot? Whether it works or not I can't say, as I don't have Windows8.1/IE11 to test. Anyone?

Microsoft seem to be finally dragging IE into the real world. For the full words and music, see:

Hi Martin,

Apologies for not responding sooner, I had to go out this morning very early, and have only just got back home.

I was about to send the following message, but found there is a problem.

-----------------------------------------------------------

The bad news is, there is not any bad news (couldn't resist it).

The good news, it now works fine in IE 11, it looks as if I have the enhanced screen.

The screen is as it was before my changes, see attached image.

Many thanks for your brilliant efforts Martin, as usual, you have sorted the problem out.

-----------------------------------------------------------

The Problem is that the cursor does not appear in the message box area, consequently, I cannot write any message reply.

I have tried to manually write and put in smilies, but nothing goes into the box.

I have also tried copy and pasting words into the box, but again nothing will enter the message space.

As I stated above, the screen looks quite normal again, but cannot insert text.

All the best,

Brian.

In Firefox the caret can't appear until the editor gets focus, and that can't happen until the page is fully loaded. If there is a hold-up in getting page elements from the server, it seems that you can't type anything. If you just wait until the roundel icon in the tab stops rotating, the caret should appear. Or if not press F5 to fetch the page again.

I can't speak for IE though, as always it is a mystery. :? I have now swapped IE11 back to editor 1, waiting to see if Brian (or anyone else using IE11) can now post.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Just had a vague idea about the login on Firefox.

Looking at the screenshot of the saved passwords, in the image I sent above, is the site address correct.

Or should it be:
  http://85a.co.uk/forum/login.php.

It makes me wonder if it is correct in the saved menu.

Perhaps Paul Boyd may confirm this by looking in his saved password menu, and seeing which address he has for the Templot Club site.

All the best,

Brian.

Hi Brian,

It's correct. The problem is not related to your saved passwords, it's a cookie problem. Look in your list of cookies -- you should see a cookie like this:

If Templot Club can't set that cookie it can't log you in.

If the cookie is present, you get logged in automatically.

Martin.

Hi Martin

I tried to access the forum using Windows 8.1 and IE11 and had a lot of trouble. Entering the url for this discussion, I got nowhere as IE truncated the url to remove the id.

IE did ask me to make Yahoo my default (which I did not).

I then tried simply entering 85a.co.uk/forum and got the first page, but when I tried clicking on the "Development Doings" heading, after a pause I got a "This page cannot be displayed" error. So I gave up. My default browser is Chrome.

This may be down to my inexperience with IE11 - I don't normally use it. And on this showing, I don't propose to change. :-))

Best wishes

John

Hi Martin,

I just looked again at the cookie menu, and clicked on the two enties, in turn of course.

Now when I click the first entry, I do not get any data change in the area below the cookie box, see attached image.

But when I click the second entry, I gat data in the area below the cookie box, see attached image.

I am thinking, one of these cookies is wrong, and should be removed.

The question is which one ?

I think the upper one is wrong.

Just read your latest message was about to do that.

All the best,

Brian.

Hi Martin,

To be candid, everything seemed normal when I first tried to log in.

There was certainly no internet interruption that I could observe.

The page had downloaded completely, and had been sitting there for about half a minute, before I tried logging in for the first time.

In fact I opened one of the topics, just to be sure it was working, or so I thought at the time.

I then closed that topic, and when that had cleared away and I was back to the main page, I tried to log in, that's when the problem started.

However, when it failed, I immediately tried again, whether this caused the second entry in the cookie menu, unfortunately I cannot say.

I did not get any strange messages when installing Firefox, everything appeared to be quite normal, and the installation proceeded fine.

One thing, which I cannot quite remember, is I may have had IE running with Templot Club already logged in when I installed Firefox, but I can't be sure of this. :?

Having said that, when I usually install a new program, I do tend to clear the board, that is close all other applications, but on this occasion, I may have had a senior moment and did not follow the rules, but I can't be sure. :?

I am sorry, I cannot be of more help than the information above. :(

At least we now know the fault symptom, if anyone else experiences the same problem, and can offer a speedy cure to the issue. :)

All the best,

Brian.
