I recently posted  a request for help in creating a 3 way tandem turnout for my layout 'Staircliffe Exchange Sidings'. Brian Nicholls of this parish successfully came to my aid and produced exactly what I required.

Using the revised track plan I set about creating a mimic diagram of the layout in 'diagram mode'. Unfortunately every time I print the diagram it omits the 3 way tandem turnout. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but in spite of experimenting and changing various settings I still get an incomplete track plan. What's even more confusing, is that if I print the page map it prints the complete layout, including the 3 way tandem turnout!

What am I doing wrong?

Hi David,

You are not doing anything wrong. Diagram-mode output works by filling colour between the outer stock rails, one template at a time. If one of those rails is omitted from a template, it can't work. Complex formations such as a tandem turnout are often built up from partial templates where each stock rail is on a separate template, which means it can't be output in diagram mode.

The solution is to temporarily lay some plain track templates across the area to represent the tandem turnout while creating diagram-mode output, and then remove them later.

If you select them as a group and give them a prefix tag, you can keep them in the .box file unused and add them again whenever needed. Or keep them in their own separate .box file to be added when needed.

Alternatively if you had created the tandem yourself you could have kept a full version of the two original turnouts unused in the .box file, to be used for this purpose. It is a good idea to do that anyway with complex formations, so that you can more easily re-create the formation at a later date if necessary.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Dave,

You're using diagram mode, and in this mode, partial templates will not display on sketchboard.

In sketchboard, you need to show the control panel by clickng the button of the same name, if it is not already showing.

Then in the control panel, click the 'trackpad' tab.

In the drop down menu, under trackplan options, and again under the add/update radio button, 'UNTICK' the box, < in diagram mode >.

Then click the [ update now button],

This will update the trackplan to detail mode, and show the 3 way.

All the best,

Brian
