Hello Everyone,

My name is Pete and I am a newbie to Templot. I have been reading the forums for the past few weeks, watched the videos several times, probably read most of the old and new Companion sites twice (truly).

I think I am really going to enjoy this program - and cutting my teeth on the curve of learning (after the above though it's doesn't seem to daunting) and becoming very acquainted with my lack of railroading knowledge after 20ish years of active modeling :D. It's amazing what I just never thought about all this time!

Regardless - I do have a question, I have loaded a scanned image of a hand drawn route map as a background shape (thank you Martin for the clear and concise how-to's worked like a charm). I drew some track segments to get a feel of this next step, again went okay I think. Though when I try to save the file in the Background Shapes dialogue box under save all (or try and quit and use the save my work option) I get:

So I just quit. Upon restarting Templot2 I restore my previous work and the track shows. If I reload (in background shapes box) the image a correctly scaled blank white page appears behind the track.

Ideas on what I'm doing? I can load the background shape/map anew and it places perfectly behind the track.

As an aside here's my initial trials:

TrackPad grid at 100 Prototype-Feet

(The images above I resized in the forum post window so they became a little squashed:/ )

Then my initial run at some curvy track:

Not perfect, but after following the 2 tutorials on the New Companion site and trying some more experiments I am feeling very happy with my bumbling and look forward to more.

I have another setup question - but I'll save that for the next post :)

Hi Pete,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

Please could you post your image file as an attachment here so that I can see what the problem might be? If it is too large to attach here (6.5MB max) please send it to me as an email attachment to martin@templot.com .

You may be able to cure the problem if you right-click on the Templot icon on the desktop and then click Run As Administrator. Windows Vista is known to be troublesome about permissions.

Have you had any similar problems saving your .box files?

Well done on your Templot progress! I'm glad you found the web site helpful. :)

regards,

Martin.

Thanks Martin,
I always forget about the "Run as Administrator" option. I opened Templot that way and and can save the image and reload it. As for the .box - haven't messed with that to much yet (as far as I know!) I will see about that too.
pete
ps. I will send you the image - not sure I can post it to the "public"/internet.
