I've been messing around a fair bit, just trying things to see what happens.
This means the current state of my project is somewhat...undefined...
Which is fine, I was aiming to just fool around and see what happens with various options. Now, though, I seem to have got myself into a state I can't revert from...
What I want to do is start a whole new 'project' from scratch. I've saved my current box file, in case I should ever want to come back to it, then I've done (in the storage box) 'File -> New Project-> Clear all templates'.
However, instead of the default nice curved turnout, with everything like notches and pegs setup in a sensible way, what I get now as the first template, is a piece of curved plain track, with the notch way off on the workspace somewhere, and the notch doesn't move with the track, it's fixed in place.
I can't at the moment figure out to reset everything to the usual start-up state? Any pointers hugely appreciated.

Deleting the stored templates (main > clear all templates) doesn't modify the control template or undo settings such as your track gauge and scale.

You can mint a new control template by clicking the NEW tool-button or the template > new template menu item. This resets many of the settings, but not all of them.

If you have made fewer than 80 changes to the control template since start-up you can get back to the starting condition by holding down CTRL+U or holding down the blue left-arrow tool button.

But if you need to get back to the very start the easiest way is simply to quit Templot and restart (you will need an internet connection). Answer no thanks when asked if you want to reload the previous session. Don't forget to set your gauge and scale again.

*sorry, I still don't know your name. :?

regards,

Martin.

Thanks Martin,

I think the quit and restart without the reload is what I'm after.

The more I use this, the more I like it. I'm not ready to start anything in earnest yet, as at the moment, I still have the odd moment where I hit a wrong key combination, and everything gets away from me very rapidly.

It doesn't help that I'm running in parallels on a Mac, and I'm having to set up key mappings between the host and the VM, as the Mac catches a lot of the Function keys.

Still, overall, I definitely feel like I'm winning, and I think I'm ready to have a look at a few of the more complex concepts and tutorials now.

The names Phil, by the way :)

Or Dharma. I answer to both, for rather strange reasons.

Have you tried Codeweavers Crossover, or Winebottler on the Mac? Templot runs quite well under Linux/Wine and many Mac users prefer Templot that way. It also avoids the need to buy a copy of Windows. :)

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin.
With the death of Windows XP I elected to go down the Linux route using wine. I chose the Mint version and have found that once set up Templot works remarkably well and I have not really had any issues with the combination. Most impressive. :D

I may be teaching you to suck eggs, but one thing I do now when building formations or something like i slip, is to save every few additions. Sometimes its a simple save over what I have done previously, other times its version A/B/C etc. This allows you to go back several stages and re-use what you have designed to go off on a different tangent or try something else without having to start all over again.

Ahh, Thanks Hayfield. I assume you mean saving the box?
That's a good idea...certainly whilst I'm still figuring out what 90% of the menu options are!

Martin: I have a copy of Windows that I've had for many years, so I haven't faced any expense. The only slight issue I've faced is that the Mac intercepts certain key presses, and I guess it must do this with Wine as well?

It's not really a problem. All I do is define mappings from different key strokes to translate through to the required keystrokes in the VM. For example, instead of F3, I press 'apple-a', and F3 gets sent to templot. I'm just updating the function key cheat sheet with a biro as I make new mappings.
