Hello,
I thought I would show the progress so far for a station I have failed to reproduce to my satisfaction for many years. After discovering Templot things became a lot more promising. I had always failed to to make a satisfactory interpretation in the space I had available. I was in a continuous loop trying to model the whole station in a space that was just too small. It is still a work in progress as the goods shed presents  problems being on the curve. I also have spacing issues to sort out between running lines and sidings on the curved inside of the plan.

Hi Trevor,

That's looking good! :)

You need to upload also the .sk81 image file from C:\TEMPLOT_DEV\SHAPE-FILES\ folder (if it is not too large -- upload size limit 6.5 MB)

(The BGS file contains the size and position info, but not the actual image.)

regards,

Martin.

Hello Trevor,

Just a question:- are you sure that 50mm track centre spacing is adequate on curves of only 24" radius?

I don't know much about about 00-SF but when I built something to that standard for a friend a few years ago, I was shocked at how much end slop there was when the stock went round curves (talking front bogied steam locos).

We got away with it - but only just and I was sweating about having to washer-out all the side play for a while.

Mind you, they were "ready to run", and yours are probably not.

Best wishes,

Howard

Hi Howard,

2" / 50mm is the spacing for Peco Streamline, which is normally used down to 24" / 600mm radius.

But maybe not with the new APT-E from Rapido:

That is on 750mm / 700mm radii, so would be much worse on 600mm.

(The diagram doesn't show the proper articulated bogies.)

regards,

Martin.

Articulated bogies or not - that is a pretty impressive looking demonstration!

The problem we saw was much more humble - an M7 running bunker first passing a Mk1 - they clear but not by much!

Not sure what era Trevor is modelling but it does sound like the kind of place where Duchesses might be passing 70' 12-wheel diners at a closing speed of about 140MPH!

But if he is doing a later period, APT-E plus prototype HST ....

Perhaps such questions are best asked at this stage...

Best wishes,

Howard

Hello Martin,
My planMarch16_2915.sk81 file is 44.9MB unfortunately.Suggestions of possibly reducing the files overall size would be welcome. I notice the roomloftMarch16_2015.bgs file works without a .sk81 file?Or is that due to it being lines?
Thanks.
Trevor

Hi Trevor,

Depending on the present format, it may be possible to reduce the file size by using fewer colours, or by saving in JPG format for upload. (A copy, don't do that with the file you are actually using.)

If you send the original to me at martin@templot.com I will upload it to the server outside of the Templot Club database, so everyone can get it.

regards,

Martin.

Hello Howard,

Just a question:- are you sure that 50mm track centre spacing is adequate on curves of only 24" radius?
I am hoping so.The double track section in the loft is peco code100 and has been in use as it is previously. Having said that, I am unsure if I had both directions passing at the same time. I am keeping everything crossed. I don't recall any collision issues but I may just have been lucky. :D

Not sure what era Trevor is modelling but it does sound like the kind of place where Duchesses might be passing 70' 12-wheel diners at a closing speed of about 140MPH!
I will be running some of Staniers finest and 12-wheel diners(Early BR). I may need speed limits on the stretch I am building though. I haven't run two diners in opposite directions at the same time now you mention it.

The problem we saw was much more humble - an M7 running bunker first passing a Mk1 - they clear but not by much!
I do have a 0-4-4t Stanier 2P which may present the same issue though.

Regards.

Hello,
Here is a screen grab of the plan in Templot. The file is too big as an attachment but Martin may be providing a solution.
Regards.

Here is Trevor's picture shape file, attached.

By reducing the resolution and colour-depth, I have got it down to 4.3MB.

This .sk81 image file needs to be saved in the same location as Trevor's .bgs file, before reloading the .bgs file into Templot.

(The planMarch16_2015.bgs file, not the room plan which he posted.)

Trevor, you may find that this file allows a much faster screen response if you replace your original .sk81 file with this one -- at the expense of less precise detail when zooming in.

First temporarily rename the original so that you can switch back to it when needed.

Martin.

Very impressive, Trevor. Where is the location?

I hope you will keep us all posted when you eventually get round to construction.

Hello,
I may start a layout thread on RMWeb once I get all my ducks in a row :D
Here is a link for the location.
