Not sure if it's just me, but when "hide name labels" is turned on, and the current template is shown it's impossible to select any other templates by right or left clicking, without turning off "hide name labels", and doing a shift select. If there isn't a current template shown*, then selecting templates seems to work.

This is with Templot 91b on XP.

Richard.

* either by pressing the HOME key, or after you've just CTRL-V'ed the current template, it's easy to left click another template

Hi Richard,

Sorry, I can't reproduce this. Or maybe I'm not understanding what you are saying. :( If group-selected templates don't show as such, try pressing F12.

Why not install Jing ( free -- http://www.jingproject.com ) and quickly make a bit of video to show what you mean? After uploading, the link will be on your clipboard ready to paste into a message.

Reporting of problems like this seems to be an ideal use for Jing.

regards,

Martin.

Oops - sorry I never noticed at the time, you have to have the shove window open.

Hi Richard,

That's by design. It's in case the timber numbers which you need to click are overlapping a nearby template. Here's the relevant part of the Shove Timbers help text:

"While the shove timbers window is showing and the control template is not hidden, it is not possible to get the pop-up menu for a background template simply by clicking on it. Instead, hold down the SHIFT key and click the template's name label, or first hide the control template (HOME key)."

In practice, after shoving timbers on one template you generally need to do store & background, which hides the control template and so allows you to click on the next template to be shoved.

regards,

Martin.

Actually in *my* practice I kept the shoved timber dialog open whilst I was trying to select the next template to edit; without the labels on I was having much luck :D. As you suggest, I left shoving timbers to the end of my design, so I had the shove timber dialog open during the whole process - I frequently found shoving timbers on one template causes changes to be made to nearby templates, and rather than forget I hop off to those templates to sort them out, before coming back to finish off the template I was working.

I guess it's just the way I was doing it!

Richard

Hi Richard,

Yes, I leave the Shove Timber dialog open.

Yes, me too.

But if you just "hop off" to another template you lose the one you were just working on. True, you can rely on CTRL-U to get it back, but CTRL-V is safer because you might forget to go back, and once in the box it is immediately saved to the running backup file. CTRL-V automatically hides the control template, so there is then no difficulty in clicking on the next one.

So the sequence is: shove timbers, CTRL-V, click next template, press T (delete to the control), shove timbers...

regards,

Martin.
