Hi

I'm building a layout for a competition launched by our club chairman. I'm looking for a supply of n gauge copperclad sleepers. Anybody know where I can get some?

I've tried Marcway in Sheffield and they can't supply, although they are 'sending' me some strip for pointwork they have yet to appear despite promises on the phone. There is a fixed budget for the competition so cannot go joining the 2mmFS club.

There would appear to be plentiful supplies of 4mm sleepers but not 2mm.

Nigel,

You might have to look at products from the US - like here

http://www.kapplerusa.com/y2k/p-n-ties.htm

The problem is that these are to North American standards with 9" wide ties, so might look a bit on the thin side in UK N scale.

The price doesn't look too bad and compares favourably with the 2mm Society prices, but the postage might be a killer and you might be subject to import duty and VAT, depending on the amount of your order.

Jim.

Hi Nigel,

I just checked my stores and found a couple of part used packs of Marcway CCS2 which is labelled as 2mm Finescale sleeper strip. I purchased it in the closing down sale at the Wakefield Model Centre a while back. I have used bits of it for wiring feeds in buildings and even turnout tie bars in larger scales than 2mm.

I would be a little worried about using it to produce 2mm trackwork as the width of the strips in each pack varies from 1.7mm to nearly 2.5mm. By my calculation ( and not being a 2mm scale person ) plain track sleepers should be 1.65mm wide and turnout timbers 2mm wide so it is anybody's guess which the packs are intended for. I do seem to remember Marcway and possibly even SMP when they were down in Warwick selling bags of pre-cut sleepers for 2mm scale plain track so I would guess the longer strips are for turnouts.

What quantity of track are you looking to make for the layout ?

Regards
Rob

Hi

Thanks to those that replied to my enquiry.

I have now sourced enough for most if not all of the sleepers I need. As it happens from Marcway.

I normally work in EM gauge and have done for the last 30 years, but this is a chance to try something different. I have now built aTandem/3 way point in 3 gauges, EM (of course), 5inch and now 9mm and all off templot drawings!
