Searched in all the obvious places but can't find a quick way to move around the pad with the mouse or how to use the mouse wheel to scan in and out.  Up till now I have been using the arrows and +/- keys on the zoom pad which becomes a pain on a large plan.

I'm sure the solution is staring me in the face...

Gordon,

One way I get around on a large plan is to use the "Zoom to fit entire page" button up in the top left corner of the workspace,  just under the "Action" menu heading.   Once zoomed out,  I zoom back in to my required area using the Zoom Rectangle.  It is a reasonably quick operation and you should get the view you want with a couple of clicks and a drag.

Jim.

Hi Gordon,

CTRL+F2 or just press the main 2 key. Then click the mouse and off you go. Zoom out first, usually.

Likewise you can zoom using CTRL+F1 or just press the main 1 key.

You have printed the F key chart and attached it to your keyboard, haven't you? :) help > print F key chart.

Often the quickest way to get where you want is to zoom right out using "zoom to fit entire pad" tool-button or (top-left) key, then "draw a zoom rectangle" tool-button.

or how to use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out.
Mouse wheel is only in version 091b. Full info and download link at: topic 113

Full details of the mouse controls were at (but don't use the link there for 091a, get 091b as above): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/templot/message/7195

Here they are again:

Mouse Wheel functions.

ROLL = zoom slow (same as Ctrl+Add/Subtract)

SHIFT+ROLL = zoom fast (same as Add/subtract)

CTRL+ROLL = pan sideways or up/down.

Click the wheel button to toggle between horizontal and vertical panning. The speed is set on the panning controls window as for the other panning functions.

This means that clicking the middle button no longer centres the pad on the mouse. That function is still available on Ctrl+Left Click.

SHIFT+CTRL+ROLL = undo/re-do changes (same as CTRL+U , CTRL+D).

This is extremely convenient to quickly see "before/after" effects when making design changes to the control template -- try it!

The mouse wheel also works elsewhere in Templot. It will scroll the gauge list and the storage box. On some systems it will also scroll the Help notes and the template info panel (this depends on the driver supplied with your mouse).

 regards,

Martin.

p.s. Jim, Gordon,

Another handy option which you may have missed is "zoom pad to fit" on a template. Just click on a background template where you want to be, and then press* Z. (z accelerator key on its menu.)

(The SPACEBAR does the same for the control template, and the "dot" tool-button.)

*on some systems that may need to be ALT+Z, depending how you have set up Windows.

Hi Gordon,

Another p.s. -- did you mean the arrow buttons? You know you can also use the arrow KEYS on the keyboard? (Sometimes you may need to click on the pad first.)

And zoom using the ADD and SUBTRACT keys on the keyboard? (On the number pad.)

regards,

Martin.

If I can butt in: I really like the new(ish) mouse wheel functions, but I wonder if you could have a option to centre the screen around the mouse location whilst scrolling? It works very well in AutoCad like that. Also, and I've harped on about this before, mouse-wheel-button-down and drag is a good way to scroll around the drawing in AutoCad as well.

Richard.
