Okay , many years ago I built a 7mm layout using C& L components I hand built all of the buildings etc .
The Layout went out a couple of times , but at the time I felt that the please had come from the design and construction. Also I had a large H0 Austrian exhibition layout called "Prutz" on the exhibition circuit.

I digress... I built a lot of 7mm stock plus loco's .

But I also obtained one of the 85a Hunslets..

Lovely model BUT...The coupling rods no longer stay on the loco . Basically this is due to the fact the plastic inserts for the back of the wheels have worn out.

Now I don't mind putting a new chassis into the loco , but for the sake of 6 securing inserts made of plastic I could save a lot of my hard earned wedge .

Some Modellers have reamed out the wheels to take the Slaters cranks etc and that may be the next course of action. However if I can obtain the afor said mention bits of plastic I would be a much happier bunny .

Currently I have an Eric Underhill Jinty awaiting painting , Several re-configured Lima 4F's being bashed ..A J94 and a Gronk awaiting construction..

Hi,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

A new chassis seems a bit drastic. Many modellers have replaced the moulded rods with etched rods.

By the way, there are only 4 of the retaining collars -- there are none on the middle wheels to allow axle sideplay.

It is now nearly 20 years since I last made the Hunslets. It is very likely that I have a stock of the retaining collars, also replacement rods, but my memory isn't good these days. But if they exist they are not easily accessible at present, so I can't say for sure. Send me an email with your postal address, and when I have found them I will put some in the post to you. You can find my email address by clicking my name on the left of this.

You will need some means to heat-seal the collars onto the rods -- you could make a special soldering-iron bit for the purpose (the crankpins are fixed to the rods and rotate in the wheels). If you have none of the special plastic-safe grease supplied with the loco, I will send you some of that too.

If nothing has happened after a few weeks, post a reminder reply here. :)

(p.s. alternatively you could turn replacement collars in suitable plastic.)

regards,

Martin.
