Hello Martin

you recently asked in another place for a 40 ft to the inch plan of Newhaven.

Have you found the 25" to mile c1937 maps at the NLS site

obviously 1:2500 approx rather than 1:480 but might help..

regards

Rodney Hills

Hi Rodney,

I may have done, but I have no recollection of doing so, nor can I think of any reason to do it.

Are you sure it was me? Can you provide the RMweb link?

Yes I know about the 25" mapping of England & Wales on the NLS web site. They started at the south coast working northwards and have currently reached a line roughly from Bristol to Hull, see:

 http://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/index.cfm#zoom=8&lat=53.0040&lon=-2.0724&layers=64&b=1&point=0,0

Unlike the old-maps.co.uk site, it is all free and without watermarks. Also the scanning resolution seems to be better, which is significant when zooming in on them for use in Templot.

When the scans are integrated into their seamless georeferenced system, you can cross-fade from historic to present-day mapping, making a wonderful resource for track planning and scaling. See this bit of video which I made a few months ago:

regards,

Martin.
