This topic is obsolete. Irregular diamond-crossings are now fully supported in Templot2.

Re: Double Slips and Switch-Diamonds

It would be nice if a date for when these could be available were known as I am going to need them fairly shortly for Princes Risborough. There was a copy of the track plan lodged on Templot about a year ago showing them.

I also clicked on the samples links and got just a page of letters and characters. Something I've missed ?

Hi John,

Sorry I can't give a date for any future developments. But I'm hoping the irregular diamonds and gaunt turnouts will be available soon.

Note that it is only the irregular diamonds that you are waiting for. Regular diamonds and slips have been available for a long time -- there are videos showing how in the list at:

http://www.templot.com/martweb/video_list.htm

You have upgraded from version 074b I assume?

Some browsers attempt to display .box files as text files. You then see a jumble of letters and numbers. If that happens the solution is to go back and right-click on the link and select Save Target/Link As... on the menu which pops up.

regards,

Martin.

Hi John,

I've now looked back at that and it was actually nearly two years ago. Your message and my reply are at:

I'm very sorry it has taken so long and you are still waiting. Templot coding development is very slow nowadays because so much of my Templot time is taken up with user support. I have over a dozen emails waiting for replies at the moment -- problems downloading, CDs lost in the post, retrieving backups, questions about the difference between Templot and XTrkCad, lost release codes, ...

And by the time I have finished dealing with them there will be several more arrived.

You uploaded your .box file to the now defunct templot.info site, so I'm attaching it again below for those who haven't seen it. Also here is a screenshot. It sure will be impressive! :)

Hi Martin.
I know it's the irregular diamonds I'm going to need, I'm using 0.82d as it works for me and I didn't need any of the new features in 0.9x.
I'm surprised it's two years since I posted the plan but it's taken me that long to build and lay the South end with its five slips on a ladder crossing plus all the sidings. The screen shot doesn't show the two scissor crossings to the left which will keep me busy for a bit more.
I'm using Thunderbird as a browser and it's never done that before still now I know what to do.
Being patient,
John

Hi John,

I have a version of Templot here which can do irregular diamonds.

If you send me, or upload as an attachment to Templot Club, a .box file containing your overlaid plain track templates, I will create the irregular diamond template(s) for you. I can return them in .bgs file format which you can add into your background shapes on the pad. You can then print them out along with the adjacent templates in the usual way.

Ditto and likewise for anyone else waiting for irregular diamonds.

I've attached below a sample .bgs file containing an irregular diamond. Main road 2640mm radius, diagonal road 1065 radius, angles left to right 1:7.5, 1:5, 1:4

If you are not familiar with re-importing dxf files into the background shapes, this is what it looks like if you reload the attached .bgs file into your background shapes:

I'm very sorry that it is taking so long to get the irregular diamonds released.

Just a reminder though for anyone using Templot version 074b -- Templot can do regular diamond-crossings very easily. All you need to do is upgrade to version 082d. Full details at: http://www.templot.com/martweb/pug_info.htm

In a regular diamond-crossing the tracks crossing one another are both straight, or both curved to the same radius in the same direction (in other words the effect created by taking a straight diamond-crossing and bending it). If you are creating crossovers and slips leading to goods loops and sidings, a regular diamond-crossing is most likely what you need.

The delay applies only to irregular diamond-crossings where the tracks crossing one another differ in radius (as in this sample) or the direction of curving. These most commonly occur in double-track junctions.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin
Thank you very much for your kind offer of producing my irregular diamonds which I will take up shortly. (Now I've built the boards and track to nearly where I need them I'm going to do a bit of modifying/fine tuning to the plan). When that's complete I'll send them via Templot club.
It will be interesting to see how many other takers there are for your offer.

regards,
John
