Hi,

I am the project manager for a new build ’00’ layout at the High Wycombe & District Model Railway Society. It is a representation of Oxford station and environs around august 1960. It is some 32ft long and 10 ft wide.

The scenic part is around 32ft x 4ft and it is this that I would like to print out, preferably on a continuous sheet of paper.

Are there any commercial printers who can take a Templot file and print out the layout to scale?

Regards

Nigel.

Hi Nigel,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

Yes, you can export your track plan from Templot as a PDF file, which can be printed by many commercial printers as a single roll sheet. The usual width limit is 42".

See for example this topic for more details:

I don't know of any company offering to print directly from Templot .box files, but exporting to PDF is very easy:

regards,

Martin.

Hi Nigel

I've used MFS Reprographics in Milton Keynes for all the 7mm scale Templot PDF's I've required printing. as Martin states, most good print companies offering similar services can print up to 42" wide.
A quick search on Google brings up a number of commercial print companies in High Wycombe.

Hi Ian,

What is a "ball park" figure for printing these large plans assuming a 42" width. Are the costs pro-rata to the length or is there a bas ic fee plus £x.xx per foot.

Rob

Hi Rob,

I believe prices are based on multiples of A1 or A0 size paper, so about £2.50 per A0. Therefore a 33" x 141" sheet is about £7.50. Those prices are for colour plotting so B&W should be slightly cheaper in theory.

I might go and get something printed today so I can get an accurate figure ;-)

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the info re the printing costs. Sounds very reasonable to me for one-off prints.

BTW love the battle between imperial and metric ! Reminds me of the B&Q guy who told me the sheet of plywood I was buying was "598mm and three quarters"

Thanks agin.

Rob
