Im laying out the clubs new test track
I want to create a N gauge track  x-mm inside a 00 gauge track

When I try and use make double track from the existing 00 gauge track , and then change gauge, templot creates a smaller version of the curve  and places it in a funny position

is there a way to create a double track and then have Templot change the gauge and nothing else ?

dave

Hi Dave,

You can change the track gauge, i.e. the distance between the rails, on a template-specific basis using the gauge > modify current settings > menu item. Have a different gauge for every template in your track plan if you wish. :)

However, that is not what you want to do. You also want to change the scale.

That's not something Templot expects in the middle of a track plan. Do this:

1. make double track at required spacing.

2. store the new track on the background.

3. use the gauge menu to select the new gauge/scale.

4. click on the background template just created.

5. click peg/align tools > align the control template over, and snake onto peg > facing-facing (or press P, K, F).

6. click on the background template again.

7. click peg/align tools > extend/shorten the control template to meet at > at CRTL-9 (or press P, O, 9).

8. click on the background template again and delete it.

Repeat for each starting template. This will work for straight or curved templates.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Dave.
As Martin has already said it can be done. I had my doubts until I tried it some years ago to compare the difference in length between the same turnout size in different gauges, in this case OO, EM and P4. In the attached box file the crossings are aligned for comparison. The difference between the the radii of the diverging roads is also of interest. I was then and still am quite impressed that it works, but then this is Templot.
Regards
Tony.
