Malcolm,

I haven't had much experience with maps and suchlike but for drawing outlines of baseboards you should use the "background/shapes" menu option.  There you get options to draw various basic shapes and the one you would probably want is rectangle.   When you have selected that you can then choose to enter the dimensions or draw it graphically with the mouse.  For exact measurements,  it is probably better using the measurement entry option where you are asked to enter the co-ordinates for two opposite corners.

For your "L" shaped baseboard you might want to draw the longer leg horizontal and the shorter leg vertical.  Also the basic measurements in Templot are metric (I know there is a way of entering Imperial but I can't remember at the moment :) ) so converting your longer leg of 12' x 2' to metric gives a metric size of 3658mm x 610mm.  So your first point for the rectangle would have X = 0 and Y = 0 and the second point at the opposite end would have X = 3658 and Y = 610.   For your second rectangle of the shorter leg,  the length would be 2438mm x 610 and the points of insertion for this rectangle would have the following values - X = 3658, Y = 0 for the first and X = 4268, Y = 2438 for the second.   If you want to depict smaller sized boards,  you can sub-divide the larger dimensions to draw smaller rectangles.

I find that I tend to work with what I call "Templot feet" - i.e. I translate a foot to be 300mm when entering Imperial baseboard dimensions into Templot which means that you have a built in spare ~5mm for every foot which can come in handy at times. :D   And it does make the metric figures a bit easier to handle.

Jim.

Hi Jim,

Prefix inches with a letter i.

For example, to enter a dimension of 4ft you can enter i48 instead of 1219.2 mm.

Hi Malcolm,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

There are no specific functions to create L shapes in Templot. But as Jim says you can build up an L or U shape by overlapping two rectangles like this:

The easy way to create such rectangular baseboard outlines is to use the quick baseboard functions here:

If none of the pre-set sizes match your requirements, you can enter your own dimensions in mm or feet or inches.

regards,

Martin.
