Hi Martin

I am about to try and build a bit of complex non prototypical track work into my hidden fiddle yard. It would help to be able to send a drawing but I don't seem to be able to incorperate it into this posting. Is that possible and if so how, if not I will try and explain it in words.

Cheers

Hi Martin

Thanks for the info.

This is definiatly not to scale but you get the jist of it.

As you can see the area of difficulty is a cross over at about 90 degrees?? with 4 points at each end. The 2 left hand points are joined by approx 450mm radius track as are the 2 right hand points. This layout in a previous incarnation had just 2 Y points joined heel to heel, to give an enterance to the fiddle yard but to also allow changing the direction of trains.

The dimentions of this layout dont allow the 2 Ys scenario, and this is as close as an alternative as I can come up with. Beauty of it is 1 tortoise controlls all 4 points through 1 switch.

The radii of the components of the fiddle yard enterance need to be about 425/450mm. (Thats as tight as I would like to go)

I would like to have the visable parts of the layout as big a radius as possible. I am able to add small triangular sections to the base boards at the enterance to the first fiddle tracks on both sides to ease the exit points of this "THINGY" (Not even sure what to call it)

This is where the problem arises between me and  Templot. I have been trying to establish the  area to be built basically as a seperate base board and to then fit this item into it. Each time a try a variation some of the components become very distorted. Is there a way to design the entrance section as described please?

Cheers

Hi Alan

No, I forgot the gauge. It is 4mm/ft. Does that make some of those turns a bit tight? There are however a couple of good ideas in your suggestion though. Its amazing how 2 heads and a slightly different perspective make all the difference.

Cheers

Maybe do the same with the lower loop back as you've done with the upper one and the lower junction station becomes a junction with three lines leaving to the right.

I haven't even started trying to work out what gradients you might get away with :-)

Where's Cyril Freezer when you need him? :-)

Jim.
