Here is the second update to TemplotMEC and OpenTemplot. The .zip file attached contains only the files which have changed since the last update.

If you are starting from scratch, see instead the latest full release at:

http://85a.co.uk/forum/view_topic.php?id=3292&forum_id=26

I have edited that topic to make getting started a bit more straightforward with this latest update.

The background > maps functions are now working, plus several smaller changes.

If updating, extract the attached .zip file into your project folder as before, see instructions:

 http://85a.co.uk/forum/view_topic.php?id=3292&forum_id=26

and copy and paste the entire contents of the new folder BOTH_UPDATE_2ND_SOURCE into your working files. Several of the existing files will be replaced, and you will get a Windows message to confirm this.

If you have downloaded previous releases of TemplotMEC and modified the files, you will need to save those files elsewhere and then copy and paste the changes into these replacement files.

Also now included are 3 sub-folders:

html_viewer_units contains modified files for the Html viewer, which avoids the need to install the FrameViewer package before you can get started, and also eliminates the "duplicate files" warning messages from the compiler.

synapse_units contains files from

 http://synapse.ararat.cz/doku.php/about

which provide the internet connection for fetching the tiled maps.

output is the new destination folder for your compiled executable file.

You will see that there is already a copy of

templotmec.exe

in there, so if you just want to try running TemplotMEC without compiling it in Lazarus, you can just click on and run that file.

Also in there you will see there is another executable file:

ot_screenshot_capture.exe

This is a helper utility to make the screenshot maps. Lazarus doesn't provide a wrapper for the Windows WebBrowser control (which is essentially a copy of IE7), so I have created this utility in Delphi to provide that functionality. The Delphi files are open-source on Sourceforge, but you don't need them and they won't compile in Lazarus. I tried hard to find a Lazarus equivalent embedded web browser, but there just doesn't seem to be one with the same functions.

Don't try running that utility yourself, it needs to be launched from within TemplotMEC.

If you move templotmec.exe to a different location, you should move this utility too, so that TemplotMEC can find it.

Here's the .zip file.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Are you planning at some point to update the Templot download page to make the latest version of each Templot 'variant' easy to access. I do appreciate you are running in several directions at the moment. My plan ( and probably that of lots of others ) is to use the original network version on an as required basis but squirrel away a copy of the back-up version every once in a while.

Thanks
Rob

That's exactly how it feels. :(

I'm trying to discover what's possible in Lazarus while simultaneously updating the files and also learning about Sourceforge with Adrian's help.

The intended destination is a situation where:

There is a latest working version of OpenTemplot available to the world on Sourceforge if the dreaded bus gets me, but any future new developments on there would be left to Adrian and others, and

I'm able to help a bit on here for anyone who just wants to dabble in coding or learn about it without getting involved in Sourceforge, and

I'm free to continue developing and updating Templot2, and

I can force myself to make some progress with the Templot Companion docs.

So yes, there will be some easy access to the latest update version of OT or TemplotMEC, but exactly who will be posting it and where is not yet entirely clear. In the meantime I suggest you download the .zip files and save them somewhere in your backups for a rainy day, and continue to use Templot2 for normal use.

The latest .zip does contain a runnable version of TemplotMEC if you drill down to the \output\ folder. Just click on it to try it. There is a lot of Templot2 still missing, and the issue with high cpu activity is not yet fixed.

cheers,

Martin.

Thanks Rob.

For those wanting to start from scratch:

I have had a nice boiled egg, :)  and now uploaded a full set of files containing the latest release including yesterday's updates at:

 http://85a.co.uk/forum/view_topic.php?id=3292&forum_id=26

I have also updated the "Getting started with Lazarus" topic, which is now a lot simpler with the latest release:

 http://85a.co.uk/forum/view_topic.php?id=3283&forum_id=26

cheers,

Martin.
