I haven't used this program for quite a while, but I can get involved again, now. I've all ways drawn up plans for U.S. standards and that says that I would use tie plates, and not chairs. Cross ties are called 'ties', then. And, I like to use P-87 as a scale. I have figured out how to draw rails joiners in, that are 39 feet apart and staggered. But, putting 8'6" or 9' ties in, a distance of 19 1/2" apart is a challenge. I've been in the track pad to about 150 pages, but never got to a '.exe' to allow me to that. Could you put together a tutorial that explains something like that? I've never managed to set ties in like that, in 'track pad'. Or maybe write back to tell me, please?  Lu. New Berlin, Wi. USA |

Hi Lu, There is a tutorial showing how to set up custom plain track sleeper/tie spacings at: http://templot.com/martweb/pdf_files/gwr_track_panels.pdf There should be a link in the Templot Companion. I will check that it is still there. The tutorial was written by Stuart Hince several years ago, but it is still valid for Templot2. It is specifically for GWR 44ft-6in track panels, so you just need to change the dimensions accordingly. I should perhaps explain that in UK practice, the sleepers are not evenly spaced. They are progressively closed up towards the rail joints -- which is why Templot requires each spacing to be entered separately. For staggered rails, it is only necessary to enter the spacings for half a rail length, i.e. from the rail joint on one side to the next rail joint on the opposite side. Set a "rail length" of half the actual rail length, i.e. 19ft-6in (234 inches). cheers, Martin. |

Thank you for writing back, that is good news. I did a search and found that I haven't been at this since Aug. of 2013. I quickly found that I needed to cut the rail length in half, to position the joiners right, as staggered. I will give the tutorial a good study, starting tonight. Most of my work so far, has been, to get to know how to develop patterns for future track work. I have all ready printed out a five degree double track curve for about a 45 deg. change of direction. I copy track plans from magazine articles and size them up to decent minimum radii, and draw track over those backgrounds. What fun? All for practice. I'll get into something I'd like to build, when I know this program well enough. Lu. |
