Hello, I am in the process of creating a trackplan for a possible new layout (in 00BF). I want to include a single slip between two lengths of track, one of which is straight and one is curved at a very large radius of 14682 mm. I am following the video as best I can, but whatever switch setting I make for the slip (I have tried 1:6 - the ordinary points are at this angle - 1:7 and 1:8 but each time I have got a warning message saying that the angle is too tight. I must be doing something wrong, but I can't work out what! I have attached the box file (hopefully!) showing where I have got to at the moment - this state is after I ignored the warning and continued, but I had to more some templates around a bit to see what had happened. If anybody can tell me what I'm doing wrong, I would be very grateful Thanks Paul |

Hi Paul, There is now an automated slip creation function in Templot. It is on the Tools menu and it will create a single or double slip from a background and control template that overlap within sensible limits. Rob |

Hi Rob, The auto-slip function can create only regular slips. Paul is trying to create an irregular slip (curved track over straight). Hi Paul, Have the two plain tracks crossing, one in the control template, and the other as a background template. Click on the background template, and then peg/align tools > make diamond-crossing at intersection. This will give you the underlying irregular diamond, to which you can then add the slip switches and slip roads as in the video for manually-created slips. You may find it easier to curve the straight track to match the curved track radius. (It must be an exact match, copy the curved track into the control, and then peg it on to the turnout.) You will then make a regular diamond-crossing at the intersection instead. Delete the background half-diamond just created, and then tools > make slip > make double slip as Rob suggested: 2_031258_120000000.png  This is a very short slip (around 1:5, almost as short as a Peco slip), which is why you are getting warning messages about the sharp radius. If you have room, it would be better to start with a longer turnout on the left, maybe a B-7 or B-8. p.s. sorry, just noticed you are asking about a single slip, but the answer is the same. I did change the turnout at bottom left to 1:8, although I'm not sure whether that made a difference. What I did find was that the slip was a little closer to the main line than I had envisaged, and I tried to group the templates and move it all slightly, but could not add more than one half-diamond to a group. Anyway, it doesn't matter as I have changed one of the exit tracks and the turnout bottom right and got the result I wanted (I think!) Attached is my latest position before adding in the goods yard.
