=== from Brian Lewis === Apologies for going off topic, but it was the Templot e-list that suggested using Firefox, rather than IE7. It works fine, except for one aspect. It only imported a proportion of my Favourites, (Bookmarks). It has missed complete folders and even with the folders it has imported, it has not imported all of the links. This is driving me crazy. Can anyone advise how I may 'force' it to have another go at importing the Favourite files please? Hi Brian, > This is driving me crazy. Can anyone advise how > I may 'force' it to have another go at importing the > Favourite files please? Try this: "Bookmarks > Organise Bookmarks..." menu item. Then on the dialog which appears, click the "File > Import..." menu item. If that doesn't work, there is also an Import... menu item on the main File menu, which allows you to import other data and settings in addition to Favourites from other browsers. I've had no need to try these functions, so may contain nuts. regards, Martin. |

=== from Brian Lewis === I'm obliged to you for your help Martin. In fact I had done this previously, but it did not seem to work. So I took the plunge and this time I deleted all bookmarks before I imported these from IE7. This time it worked perfectly. Now from the same stable, I downloaded Thunderbird, as an alternative to Outlook and had a similar problem in that I could not see how to import the myriad of rules I had created in Outlook over the years. In fact I could not see how to create rules at all. Regards Brian Lewis Carrs - C+L Finescale http://www.finescale.org.uk Tel: +44 1 275 852 027 Fax: +44 1 275 810 555 |

Hi Brian I, like you changed from Outlook to Thunderbird. If you go to the Tools menu and click on 'Message filters' you can set up new rules there. Further down there is the 'Import' menu item which will allow you to import settings from Outlook. Hope this helps. Best regards Charles |

----- from Brian Lewis ----- Hi Charles, Thank you for your good advice. In fact I had got this far, but one thing I cannot see how to import are the Rules determining what happens to incoming emails. I have 27 inboxes and incoming mails are filtered by a myriad of Rules I have set up over the years. Heaven forbid I should have to write all these again...... If I cannot solve this problem I will stay with Outlook. A pity, for Thunderbird has some interesting properties. Brian, I had a similar problem when I switched from OE to Thunderbird. In OE I had 30+ message rules in Thunderbird I have still only built up to 13. All I did was rebuild my message rules one at a time. I also copied and transfered my message folders but again, it's suppprising how many have not been used. It is similar with the address book, I had over 100 addresses in my OE address book but so far have less than 30 in Thunderbird, and Thunderbird can still access my OE address book when needed. I suppose I have used my transfer from OE to Thunderbird as a chance to spring clean my email setup. Just, my thoughts. Regards, Peter |
