Hello one and all,
I am very new to Templot and have never been one to want to be 100% accurate to a time or location. I like watching trains go by, and I like interesting track work :)

Currently, my intent will be to create a small test plot to have a go at in real life once it's been put together.

This topic will track my development of the plan in Templot, and hopefully I'll get to make it in real life once it's complete so I'll move this to a new topic in the relevant area when I get there.

The concept for the layout is a dockside shunt based on a hornby track plan. Yes I know, groan groan not another one, but you have to start somewhere.
The actual track work will be....complex, as I have an idea to alter it to make it more interesting. I have no prototypical example for this (shock) but I do have a scene in my head.
I'm planning on it being developed in 00 gauge, to allow RTR locomotives and wagons to run on it.

A dock side, a little 0-6-0ST 1361 shunting wagons around and to an off scene area behind a backdrop. A couple of goods platforms to load or unload and a crane (likely not functional). Some industrial backdrop, and cobblestone around the tracks.

I've been playing around with Templot and I love how intuitive a lot of the controls are, still learning it but it's fascinating to see how much is possible compared to set or peco track. As a former delphi developer I do enjoy seeing something like this done in delphi!

Anyway, enough rambling, I'll get a picture uploaded soon to show the intent and to describe how I'm going to break down the task at hand. I am very aware this topic may only be of interest to me, and if so I'm sure this topic will be moved to the correct location :)

Thank you for allowing me to join this wonderful forum, keep the great work up and I look forward to seeing more work developed from you all soon.

Had a little play around, obviously early days, but this is the concept I'm trying to get towards.

The tricky bit of course being the 3 way with 2 diamonds right in front of it. I may have to rethink this, but I think it would be very interesting to operate.

As I'm just starting out, I would start with some straight track, then work on a standard switch before I even work up to this. I can shave just under a foot off each side I think. And for some reason the bottom right track hasn't been rendered.

Hi Andrew,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

Thanks for posting your plan. The diamonds shouldn't be too much trouble. But you have drawn a 3-throw turnout. Unless you are an experienced track builder, I strongly recommend that you change that to a tandem turnout. For some explanation, see:

If you attach your .box file here, we can have a closer look.

cheers,

Martin.

Thank you for your help Martin. I have reworked the three way, but has issues making the entry switch into a wye, which I'll try to fix tonight.

The tandem single sided turnout looks much nicer anyway, so thank you for that.

I'll upload my box file when I next can, be prepared for some awful examples of poor misguided use so far :)

I've been reading up various of your tutorials and particularly enjoy your video examples. Very useful stuff!

As promised an update on the plan and a change to a 3 way tandem.

Box file is attached, any assistance and pointers are welcome.
