You have a street address, a postcode, an OS Grid Reference, Latitude/Longitude, What 3 Words, and several other location identifiers. Did you know that in GB* you also have a UPRN (Unique Property Reference Number)? Ordnance Survey have just released free access to their full list of UPRNs under their latest OpenData initiative. If you have your railway in a garden shed, it may have its own UPRN. If there is a bus shelter in your street, it may also have a UPRN. In theory you should be able to enter the UPRN instead of a full address and postcode in all official documents, web sites, letters, christmas cards, online delivery orders, etc. In practice, good luck with that. Robert Whittaker has used the data to set up a quick map to discover your UPRN: http://osm.mathmos.net/addresses/uprn/ Zoom in to at least level 16 to see the blue markers. Click a marker to see the UPRN. Info from OS: http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/business-government/products/open-uprn *GB is UK except Northern Ireland cheers, Martin. |
