There was a bit of discussion here a short while ago about switch blades having enough gap behind them when open to avoid contact with the backs of rolling stock wheels. Presumably the bigger the gap the longer the switch blade needs to be, i.e scale switch lengths probably wouldn't work with courser-than-scale standards. I've never actually seen this mentioned, so thought I'd ask what others do. Personally I allow a couple of extra timber spacings worth of length, possibly excessive, but enough. cheers Nigel |
