Hi All, First I had better introduce myself. I'm Mark Burgess and whilst having had Templot for a few years now have only really played with it. This is a plan from an Iain Rice book called Witheridge based on the Culm Valley railway. I scanned the plan into Templot and overlaid the track onto it as accuratley as possible. I therefore have added the file to this post (if I have done it right) for you to see. Hopefully if I have made any real errors the experts out there can help me out I look forward to comments both good and bad. Regards, Mark |

Hi Mark I have had a quick look at your track plan and there are four turnouts with a radius of 23" or less. This may well cause you operating problems unless using short wheelbase loco's and rolling stock. The offending turnouts are at the left hand end of your track plan and are currently numbered 118, 122, 144 & 147. Cheers Phil |

Hi Phil, The biggest loco will probably be 0-6-0 and 4 wheel stock so hopefully there shouldn't be any problems. Also I should of said that it is to fit in 8'x2' nominally. Might try to increase them though. Any recommendations on minimum radus for fine scale '00'? Cheers, Mark |

Hi Mark You can also alter the radius by changing to GW old type curved switches which give a larger radius for a shorter turnout. Also it will be more prototypical as you are modeling an ex GW branch line. Up to 1 in 5 1/4 nose use 9 ft switches 1 in 5 1/2 to 1 in 6 1/4 nose use 10 ft switches 1 in 6 1/2 to 1 in 8 nose use 12 ft switches For more details I refer you to GWR switch and crossing practice by David Smith published by the Great Western Study Group. http://gwsg.ukmodelshops.co.uk/ Cheers Phil |

In particular I was looking at the turnout at the bottom of the plan which feeds the two sidings. Changing this to a "Y" configuration would get rid of the sharpish "S" bend on the lower siding and increase the radii. Increasing the crossing number would further help matters. You can do the quick and dirty "Y" which is just to use the curving tool on a standard turnout, And I think I remember Martin doing a video or help note to draw a pukka "Y" turnout. Jim. |

But you have uploaded a file of nearly 2MB containing 218 templates, of which just 27 are in use. The rest are unused. That's fine while you are working if you want the option to back-track the designs. But it's not so good when sharing a file, especially for those still on slow dial-up.  So before uploading, save your existing file if you want it. Then go to the Storage Box and click the box > delete unused templates menu item. Then you can save a new smaller file suitable for uploading.  regards, Martin. |
