Unfortunately the Templot diagrams cannot be imported as actual track into 3PI. I can get the DXF file imported but, I get a bunch of strange vertical rails (sticking out of the template). What's up with this??? Where did I go wrong?  I've attached the DXF file.Pimin |

Ooops, should have been P-87 not P087. Loaded the DXF file into 3pi 3 times. FIrst time it was 2-rail the next two times it was 3-rail ... I don't get it?? Paul |

This is what your DXF from Templot looks like when imported into 3PI here: pimin_dxf_3pi.png  Are you seeing something different? p.s. you have exported the DXF in 2D with full detail, which doesn't work too well in 3PI. Try exporting the track centre-lines only in 2D (set all other colours to "none" on the DXF dialog). Then on import into 3PI, set the CENTLINE layer as track objects. Alternatively select the 3D option, but ideally you need to make some changes in the generator and rebuild first. For example, the outline extension marks on the timbers are not needed in 3D. regards, Martin. |

Martin, Thanks, I'll give all that a try. Yes I am seeing something very different when I import into 3PI. I see what you show AND a bunch of extraneous track segments. I'll post a jpg of it if it doesn't go away in the next round of playing with it. Pimin |

Hi Pimin, Here's your track plan exported to DXF as track centre-lines only, and then imported into 3PI as track objects. You can see that I was able to join on a Peco turnout in the usual way, and you can run trains over the connection. pimin_dxf_3pi1.png  In this way you can combine Templot-designed track with 3PI's native track. The ties don't appear because the Templot track segments are too short. regards, Martin. |

In User Preferences > Tools, untick the box "Highlight zero-length lines as long 45-degree lines". I don't understand why you are seeing 3 rails. Did you import the file twice, once as track objects and once not? There seems to be a mismatch between the track gauge which you used in Templot and the track gauge in 3PI? regards, Martin. |

Martin, "Highlight zero-length lines ..." must have been set by default? That fixed the extra track segments. I must have imported it twice? Looking at it I see that it's not 3-rail it's two copies side by side. Although, I repeatedly selected and deleted the plan? Templot = P-87 3PI = HO NMRA I'll change to have both the same. Hi, Been a while since I got this to work. Now I'm running on a 64 bit system and trying to import DXF files? Any work around, besides loading the 32 bit version? (Which I think will run on this system ... I think? ).Regards, Paul |

Hi Paul, To use the DXF import function in 3PI you need the 32-bit version of 3PI. The 64-bit version won't work with the DXF add-on. See Randy's note about this on the "secret" web page which he calls the "customer site": http://www.trackplanning.com/*******.htm The 3PI download links are on there. The page URL should be shown in your ordering emails from Randy. The DXF export in Templot works in all versions of Templot. regards, Martin. |
