Hello,

Some members may be interested in an eight page illustrated article by Michael R. Binks that appears in the latest issue of "Backtrack" magazine, Vol.22 No.12 December 2008, published by Pendragon Publishing and often available at e.g. branches of W.H. Smith.

The author (*) "asks the question and explains how railway track is constructed and maintained".

The article has eleven photographs, including some of interesting P & C work.

Note (*) -  A online index of "Backtrack"  at http://www.steamindex.com/backtrak/bt19.htm cites a previous article by Mr Binks and identifies him: " The Barking job. Michael R. Binks. Author was the site resident engineer for the complicated operation of segregating the London Transport Executive services from those operated by the Eastern Region (ex-London Tilbury & Southend Railway) lines ".

So he should know his stuff !

Regards,

Rodney Hills
