Jumping in at the deep end sort of describes my introduction to Templot. A group of us have built a couple large models of prototype locations in the past and this is our next project. Iron ore trains from Tyne Dock would arrive from bottom right behind a 9F and would depart top left after taking on another 9F banker for the stiff climb to Consett steel works. Coking coal would arrive from both lines on the right in rakes of 21 x 21ton hopper wagons, be split into three rakes of 7 for the climb to Consett behind a Q6. Washed coal would depart in the opposite direction from sidings bottom left to both lines on the right. Oil trains went to and steel products came from Consett. Altogether a busy location. I joined the Templot obsession about six weeks ago and have found the experience rewarding and frustrating in equal amounts. My fourth attempt at the plan is attached. The first two were just compiled from a sketch in a book and some photos. The latter two are based on a background shape of an old OS map. This background took me several days to get to the correct scale. The present plan has been compiled with a certain amount of impatience. Timbering is a bit of a mess and I haven't really got my head around some concepts such as transitions but we are getting there. I have started on a plan for the fiddle yard but that is not attached. There are some interesting photos on 1 - Glorious Black and White 1966 - 68. :: Fotopic.Net Thanks for the ultimate computer game! Martin Lloyd |
