He/she was luck the train was only going slowly and stopped!

What is the chance the car driver will try and sue the railway?

Hi Dean,

That's odd. Which browser are you using?

Try again with this one. Wait until the page has finished loading, then click in the address bar. Then press the ENTER key on the keyboard.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Dean,

Hmm. :?

I'm also using Firefox 3.5.4. When I click the link in the email it goes directly to the anchor (the actual post on the page).

Which email program are you using? What is actually in the address bar? For my last post it should have been:

topic_860&forum_id=5&jump_to=5631#p5631

Is that what is showing in your email program? Does it match what is in the address bar after you click it?

What happens if you copy and paste the link above into the browser address bar?

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

What happens if you copy and paste the link above into the browser address bar?

If I copy the link and paste it into FF... it takes me to this post, and not the top of the page.

Which email program are you using?

I am using Windows mail for my email program.

Is that what is showing in your email program? Does it match what is in the address bar after you click it?

For this post I have the following in my email...

topic_860&forum_id=5&jump_to=5633

and this is what is showing in the address bar, after I click the link, in my email...
topic_860&forum_id=5&jump_to=5633

It does seem strange that if I copy and paste the link, it does take me to this post and not the top of the page.:?

Hi Dean,

Thanks for posting those details.

Your problem is in Windows Mail. It is truncating the URL at the anchor (the bit at the end after the #) when it parses the link, instead of including it.

The only suggestion I can make is to copy and paste the link into your browser instead of simply clicking it. Make sure that what you are copying includes the #p.... bit on the end.

Or to not use Windows Mail. :(

If you normally view emails as HTML you could try changing to viewing emails as plain text (which is much safer). But all emails from Templot Club are plain text anyway, so that shouldn't really make any difference.

All the above also applies to your own board and other UltraBB boards.

regards,

Martin.

You nailed it Martin...

I switched Windows Mail to  view in plain text only, and now it takes me to this post, when the link is clicked. :thumb: I never noticed that it was cutting off the #p... part.

I do not personally care for Windows Mail, mainly due to the annoying popup, when I close it, asking if I want to compact my messages. I have just never really looked for another email program, or heard of any that is reliable.

Thank you Martin.. I will pass this along to interested parties.:thumb:

Hi Dean,

Glad it worked out. :)

A good email program is Thunderbird from Firefox:

 http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

I don't use it myself because it makes it very difficult to set different outgoing mail servers for different accounts. That won't be a problem for the vast majority of users who have only one internet provider.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Dean,

There's no problem with multiple email accounts.

The problem is only if you have more than one internet provider (ISP). Most folks don't. :)

Martin.

Ah, ok... Thank you, I will  look into it.

By the way... it is much nicer being taken to the post, instead of the top of the page.. :thumb::D

I'd second that suggestion.  I moved over to thunderbird some months ago and haven't really regretted it since.  It does have one or two quirks, the need to load an add on to be able to include a text file in a message is one.

Cheers for now

For those using Firefox and AdBlocker you will need to disable AdBlocker on the Templot Club pages to see the videos.

Also I noticed you need to be logged in.
