Here is my plan for a branch line terminus station based along the lines of the Furness Railway branches to Coniston and Lakeside.

I would welcome any comments on the plan.

Items 16 and 40 will eventually form a double slip (if I can get my head around working with partial templates etc).

There will be an island platform in the large open space with the outside left hand edge of the railway representing a Quay side location.

Hi,

Have just had a quick look. Two things strike me first off.
1) A fairly minor point but you might like to consider widening the track centres in the sidings and possibly in the curved areas (depends on the rolling stock you intend to use of course)
2) The Double Slip that you propose, will have an unworkable inner radius. You will need to have the inner curve of the slip as an Outside Slip. Bad news is that this really does involve a large number of partial templates. Even worse news is that I think the outer slip will also have to be an outside slip as otherwise there will be a conflict of rails. So looks like a Double Outside slip is needed.
If you want any help on this let me know.

Do you need the double slip? Or to put it differently, do you need direct access from platform 1 to the sidings? If not, it could easily be replaced by a couple of turnouts. It would mean an extra move going from the sidings to the quay, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

There's a fair amount of unused space on the bottom left, and between the sidings and the main line, but presumably that fits in with how you see things.

cheers
Nigel

Thanks for your comments gents.

I am somewhat constrained in that the layout has a rather unusual position, forming the top of the "fence" around our raised deck. In effect it is an outdoor "Shelf" layout. The deck is on the inside of the curve and there is an eight foot drop to the outside. most of the layout will be on a 350mm wide shelf with the exception of the station area where I have negotiated with the household authorities for an easement to 550mm wide.

The "main line" will strike off the deck "shelf" and bridge over the ramp which runs down to the rest of the garden.

based on your comments I will look again at the need for a double slip. I originally tried to get two turnouts, toe to toe, but ran out of space.

I may be better just installing a single point and loose the ability to reverse from platform 1 directly to the sidings.

Hi Paul

When I suggested two points instead of the slip, what I had in mind was rather than them being toe to toe, which I can see probably wouldn't fit, was to slid turnout 23 up a bit so that it can form a connection to the platform 2 road above where the slip had been. That way you would still retain a direct link from platform 2 to the sidings, which could be useful.

Just an idea
Nigel
