I have just tried my first attempt at something a little more complex in Templot. It is a scissors crossing, combine with a single slip entry from the running lines. I attach the box file, & would be interested to hear any comments.
The two lower lines are running lines, and the scissors gives access to a siding.
The two areas I am unsure about are:
  1. Check rails - this was done from a description of a track plan, so I have basically guessed at what I think ought to work.
  2. Timbering - I am told that the prototype turnouts should have timbers normal to the centreline. I can't see how that would work on a scissors.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill

That looks good.  As far as the check rails are concerned, I would be inclined to make the ones leading into the diamond a little longer because they're barely covering the diamond crossings.  probably another couple of feet should do it.  The attached box file explains it better than words!  I think the timbering is correct for the scissors turnouts - it should be normal to the centreline of the main road.

One thing that seems odd at first glance is the adjacent track spacings on the scissors.  I assume that's deliberate?

Right then - now put the whole lot on a curve :D

Cheers

Thanks, Paul.

I take the point on the checkrails - I was quite pleased with myself for stumbling on how to extend them at all.

Pleased you agree on the timbering - I just couldn't see how it would work otherwise.

The two lower tracks in the box file are running lines, so are at 6' spacing, while the top line is a siding so is at 10' from the running line. I based this heavily on the description that John Preston wrote a few weeks ago (Thanks, John), but the increased spacing of the tracks did mean I had to improvise the scissors crossing a bit.

A curve? hmm.... maybe .

Bill
