Thanks for your help on this.
I've had a quick look at the printer settings and discovered that at A3 in the Adobe Print / Page Set Up there is a default 25mm margin on each side of the paper which I cannot seem to amend.
Using 25mm in the Trim Settings (so LS 370, SS 247) and printing to a pdf it would appear that there is now a sensible overlap between individual pages. The only downside is that there are now 20% more pages; a small price to pay.
I'll also explore the 'unticked box' option with various Trim Settings until a desired output is achieved.
I'm at a loss as to why this happened as using the same printer setup with 420mm and 297mm in the Trim Settings to create a 100% pdf has worked fine.
