Now that the common crossing is ready to install I am requesting some guidance with respect to the type and distribution of chairs on my interlaced laser cut sleepers. I am using the C&L four bolt chairs and note that there may be less need for special chairs on interlaced timbers as the vee rails can be supported by chairs that are staggered or alternate so as to not get in the way of any adjacent chairs. Can anyone shed some light on what chairs to use as the C&L and P4 track company instructions only appear valid for regular turnouts, not interlaced. |

Given the overwhelming response I gather that I may need to add a photograph of what I am talking about to make it clearer! Will do this evening. One clarification is that no templates exist for interlaced timbers so I have no reference for chair type and positioning. | ||

Hi Paul, Which prototype are you modelling? There is a detailed drawing of a NER sleepered (interlaced) crossing, including chairing, in the NER 1912 Permanent Way Standards book. Reprint available from NERA: http://www.staff.ncl.ac.uk/m.h.ellison/nera/saleslst.htm (Scroll down to "Diagram Books") Unfortunately my scanner is out of use at present, but someone else may be able to scan it for you. regards, Martin. |
