I am building a test track in S7 to improve my skills in track laying and to test out any rolling stock that I build.
My skill with Templot is not great and I am sure that there are errors so any constructive comments will be accepted.
I have finished the first (LH) turnout and now am faced with turnout leading into the single slip. Where do I start? My thoughts are with the common crossings in the single slip and to work outwards.
Help and suggestions please.
Many thanks,
Brian

Brian,

Personally I'd start with the LH crossing vee as you can take it from the turnout rail of the point leading to it, then move on to the stock rails on the non-slip side. From there do the other crossing vee as you can then use the two Vee positions to gauge the slip stock rail. Hope this helps.

I would suggest that the next thing to do, if you have not done so already is to build or buy a simple 4-wheel wagon. Make sure the wheels have the correct back to back distance. Then you can use this to try out your trackwork. It is satisfying to find that the wagon goes trough your pointwork satisfactorily.

As for the slip, the one I constructed, I started with the common crossings and then worked outwards, checking with a ruler that I was getting the straight through rails straight and not introducing any unintended kinks.

I am not sure if there is a right way to construct slips, but I think you are more likely to get the alignment right by starting with the common crossings.

Best wishes

John

Brian,
Not sure if this will help, but this is how I would do what I think you need.

First create the turnout which will lead to the slip.
Next, tools>make ladder crossover>make regular ladder crossover.
Delete the second half diamond
Make the first half diamond the control
Move the peg to the DXP (geometry>peg position>DXP)
Now slide the diamond through the peg (shift F9) until the timbers of the diamond and the timbers of the turnout line up through the crossings (you are slightly incresing the track centres by doing this - but they were set to the default minimum before
Now recreate the diamond (tools>make diamond)now make it into a slip Now shove timbers (which is now a doddle!)
Now work back to the other turnout

See box herewith

Hope that helps,

Howard
PS this is how I do it - not the "right way" to do it!

Oops,  didn't know you were asking about building the track!  Should have read more carefully.
How I did mine is here:-

Hope that helps!
