Just a couple of suggestions whilst I'm trying to reduce the number of sleepers for plain track in a fiddle yard:

  • I know we have mouse actions to move one end or the other of the ruler, but I've found a couple of cases where I wanted the ruler to be a "set" length, but I wanted to move it elsewhere. Nothing that can't be done another way, I just thought it might be useful.
  • Could we have a "apply" button in the "plain track rail lengths and sleeper spacings window" that would apply the current setting, but not close the window? I must admit I'm being lazy here and not working out the sleeper spacing (again for a fiddle yard), and just trying different settings before settling on one. It would just save a couple of clicks.
If I was being really lazy, I'd ask for a plain track option, where I could enter the rail length in mm, and say that I'd like n number of sleepers evenly distributed along the length, with say extra support at the joint. Again, not useful for prototype track, but "nice" for fiddle yard, hidden track.

All the best

Richard.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the suggestions. :)

I will look at adding more mouse actions for the ruler. If we add "move" then we also need "rotate about one end".

In the meantime, try using the spacing-ring for such work. You can set it to any diameter or radius directly by mouse action, move it about, jump its centre to the notch, etc. And unlike the ruler you can leave ring copies scattered about the trackpad. (Ruler copies have been on my to-do list for quite a while.)

Or alternatively use a dummy centre-line-only straight template as a fixed length ruler. You then have all the usual template controls available.

I will add an "Apply" button to the plain track dialog in the next update.

If I was being really lazy, I'd ask for a plain track option, where I could enter the rail length in mm, and say that I'd like n number of sleepers evenly distributed along the length, with say extra support at the joint. I'm not too sure about that one. Have you looked at setting custom CWR instead? See:

That topic includes some posts from you. :)

Martin.

Thanks for that. I'd long forgotten about that thread!
