Hello Martin
FYI when running more than one copy of Templot the second copy uses equalised timbers as standard, regardless of what the first copy is using.
I was running two copies from the same .exe file, which the programme recommends against in any case, so this might just be a side effect of that.
Either way it is not at all a problem and once you select your preferred option it stays with it, but I thought I would let you know anyway.
In fact, under windows 8 with lots of memory I have had 4 copies going at the same time without any ill effect.

Hi Derek,

I can't reproduce that from a standing start, but that's not surprising because there is no possible mechanism to cause it. :)

However, if you launch 2 or more instances of the Templot .exe from the same folder they will be sharing much of their data, backup files, etc. It's likely that you were using equalized timbers in a previous session, or the one before that, of either instance.

You may get some error messages when you try to save files. You are likely to end in a terrible muddle.

If you want to run more than one instance of Templot, give each one its own folder. You could copy the entire C:\TEMPLOT_DEV\ folder to say C:\TEMPLOT_DEV_2\, or re-run the downloaded installer to install a fresh copy somewhere other than  C:\TEMPLOT_DEV\ .

p.s. in older paid-for versions of Templot the default timbering was equalized. Are you by any chance running one of those (pre-2011)?

regards,

Martin.

Hello Martin,
thanks for the reply. I understand what you are saying about sharing files- and presumably that explains why I get a duplicate of what I am seeing in the first copy when I start copy 2.

I am not aware of ever using equalised timbers- except once or twice some time back to see what they were. Having said that, I am one of those that buys a new computer and never actually shuts it down until it is due for replacement, so anything's possible.

I only found Templot late 2014.

I will try and keep a note of when it does it (maybe it won't after I "read the flipping instructions" and use a separate folder. Like I said, whatever is causing it, it's not a problem anyway.

Many thanks
Derek
