Is there a way to create a symmetrical S curve within Templot? My intention is to have a layout that can have the scenic section reversed for home use, so the tracks would need to exit the scenic section at the same angle and distance from diagonally opposite corners to allow the 180° rotation.

Will I have to simply create a “target” section of track at one end, then create the longer ‘S’ curve from the opposite end, and align the two by eye, or is there some clever way of making two track sections neatly merge?

Ideally I would like the flexibility to vary the radii between the ends, so that it isn’t simply an equally mirrored track section, although over a nine foot length it shouldn’t look too bad if it were just a shallow ‘sine wave’.

Kind regards,

Mark Pelham

Hi Mark,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

You can do what you want quite easily, and it doesn't need to be symmetrical or an S curve.

Put the notch at the required distance and angle from one corner --  geometry > notch > set notch position and angle... menu item. You can then peg the first template onto it.

Repeat the process for the opposite corner, and peg a short dummy template onto it.

You can then create anything you like between them, linking to the dummy template using the make transition functions.

Ask again if you need more help.

p.s. when pegging onto the notch (geometry > notch > shift onto notch menu item), repeating the process rotates the control template 180 degrees each time.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,
Many thanks for your reply; I'll make a start re-planning my layout, since the scenic section reversal idea is one I had last night, having completed the track plan some time ago!
Cheers,
Mark
