I have split my project into 3 phases.
All templates in phase_1 are background templates.

Templates in phase 2 were grouped, given the prefix phase_2 and wiped (Group>wipe group).

Phase 3 templates were treated similarly.
Consequently all my templates are in the Storage Box (Ctrl B) the Background templates in red and all other templates in blue.

How can I restore phase_2 (and phase_3) to background as a group, I have tried, Group>restore group and many other combinations in the Storage Box.

Help Please.

Hi Godfrey,

Assuming you mean you used the built-in prefix tags, (i.e. in square brackets) use the functions on the trackpad menus, not on the storage box.

On the trackpad, group > create smaller group > group by prefix tag > your tag.

Then if all the group templates are unused,  group > toggle group unused/background menu item.

If some of the group are background templates, wipe them before doing that, group > wipe group to make them all unused before toggling them all back.

If you added the name prefixes manually, on the storage box use the box > find and group... menu item. Then group > copy group to background menu item.

Or group > toggle group on the trackpad as above.

If none of that works, post your box file here and I will sort it out for you.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin. A quick question for you....

I'm continually printing off templates to cut trackbeds for ET and now pressed 'wipe group' twice, instead of 'print group' ( I'm waiting for new glasses!).

Is there a way to reinstate a group from 'wipe group'? I tried the back key and 'rebuild group' and neither made any difference, so I had to open the saved plan and go through all the group selection process again. I don't save any groups as I'm continually selecting different parts and it's unlikely I will ever need to go back again to a group.

It's not the end of the world, just takes me 5-10 mins to set it up again, but knowing you, I'm sure there's a reinstate group after wipe somewhere....:D

Hi Gordon,

I will get back to that shortly, but in the meantime, it is difficult to hit wipe by mistake if you do this:

Also, I will take this as a request to put some space between those items in the group menu. I'm always miss-clicking things these days too, that's why I have been adding spaces in the menus.  :)

p.s. using a rougher surface as a mouse mat helps, I'm using an offcut of foam track underlay. Cork works too.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Gordon,

Here is the actual answer to your question.

After accidentally wiping a group, immediately click this:

2_111004_420000000.png2_111004_420000000.png

Or you can go immediately into the storage box and click this menu item:

2_110905_530000000.png2_110905_530000000.png

The reason for saying "immediately" is that you can't see on the trackpad that a group is in fact still selected, and you might easily do something to cancel the group or create a new one.

Sorry for the delay in answering the actual question, I wanted to check in the code that this function doesn't do anything else that I have forgotten about.

It's useful when track planning to be able to hide a group out of the way like this by wiping them, but much safer to give them a prefix tag first, so that you can create and use other groups while they are wiped (unused).

cheers,

Martin.

Thanks Martin, I'll take a look at that in the next day or two. It's more of an eyesight problem than a mouse issue...:D
