In the latest Windows 10 Creators Edition, Microsoft have made a couple of changes which are causing much grief to users of hi-resolution displays.

1. In a so-called improvement to the dpi-aware scaling, anything which appears in the Segoe UI font (i.e. almost everything in Windows own dialogs, Windows Explorer etc., and in application title bars and menus) is now looking small, blocky and gritty and hard on the eyes. For some reason this applies only to the Segoe UI font -- other fonts display nicely as before.

2. But the catch is that they have also removed the option to change the font and font sizes for such items which used to be available from the Advanced Display Settings in previous versions of Windows 10.

For Templot, this means that although the program itself is not affected, the menus and window titles (over which Templot has no control*) are looking unpleasant and hard to read:

This has been driving me nuts since my Windows 10 system updated itself to the Creators Edition. If you are not using a hi-res display it may not look so bad.

But I have now discovered Winaero Tweaker (free) from Sergey Tkachenko which makes it very easy to change such things (and a lot more) via the Windows registry. Sergey is also author of the editor for the formatted text blocks used on the Templot sketchboard.

So my screens are now back to how they were before, and I'm happy:

:) Thanks Sergey.

p.s. it will also install the classic version of Paint for you.

*not strictly true if I spend 6 months rewriting all the menus as OwnerDraw. :(

Thanks for the info, Martin. I now have Winaero Tweaker installed on my machine and have already changed quite a few annoying windows settings.
As time goes on, I use windows less and less due to Microsoft's policies and implementations. I find myself using my linux box where I can configure my machine how I like it.

Microsoft's attempts at self destruction have converted me to the Mac. I bought a secondhand Mac Mini cheaply to see how I got on with it, and am converted.  One of the first things I got running on it was Templot, of course!  The final straw with MS was bringing my laptop into work to help with work, and MS decided to take the whole day updating it, making the laptop unusable. It's that total lack of control of updates on Win10 Home version, and hogging my entire broadband bandwidth for 20 minutes or so when starting that really wound me up. Anyway, my laptop has now been put back to Windows 7, although my now infrequently used PC is still Win10.

I moved to the MacBook four years ago and I have had absolutely NO issues at all. It runs smoothly.

I have not noticed anything negative using templot since the creator edition Update installation.
after waking from sleep does tend to get slower. Which is annoying.
