Around 3/4 years ago I had a subscription with Old Maps, which was before the NLS was becoming so well known. I never had an issue with it and then around 6 months or so later I cancelled my subscription and without any issues they stopped debiting my card. All in all a good service.

Fast forward to February 2018 and suddenly they start billing me again. I hadn't even been onto their website to renew the subscription.

After contacting old-maps, someone anonymous assured me that it was all my own fault and I should have un-subscribed earlier (did s/he bother reading my email I wonder?) but did promise a refund.

I was wondering if anyone else had has this problem before. Apart from anything else I'm a little uncomfortable with them retaining my payment details for this length of time when there does appear to be an issue with their system.

Martin,
I hope if you read this you are comfortable with it being on the forum. It is all perfectly accurate and no malice intended. But if you need to delete it or otherwise change the name to "a map provider" etc then I understand of course.

Regards
Derek

Hi Derek,

That's fine, no problem posting the details.

Assuming you mean Old-Maps.co.uk , my subs to them is via PayPal so I can cancel it on the PayPal site if I need to. I did that once without problems, but it is currently running again.

My email receipt is for payment to Landmark Information Group Limited, but looking on their web site I can now see no reference to Old-Maps.co.uk, and no reference to Landmark on the Old-Maps site. I'm wondering if there has been a restructuring of the company, which might explain suddenly getting your subs mixed up. But they are both currently showing the same postal address.

The Old-Maps site has a lot more maps than the NLS site, but unfortunately scanned at poorer resolution quality. And not free.

regards,

Martin.

Hello Martin,
Thanks for permitting it to be posted. It is good to know from someone reliable that they haven't had issues.

I won't go into too much detail on a public forum, but it's their response that was the annoying part. Apparently I never cancelled the subscription and "somehow" they didn't bill me and "somehow" they didn't curtail my access and "somehow" their system decided to suspend my access last week and "somehow" start billing me again.

It is tiny, insignificant issue- a simple apology and refund would have sorted it. Alas, pride comes before a fall. That no one else has commented suggests it may be an isolated issue.

Thanks again.
