Hello All, I am happy to have just now joined the Templot club. I have been experimenting off and on (mostly off) with Templot since the early days when it was pay for play. I have always been impressed with its capabilities. Things like turnouts on easements and right hand turnouts that curve left seem to be something that no other software package can do and practices that are not uncommon for prototypes that I (will someday) model. I'm excited about Martin's decision to begin an open source project for Templot. I know a little about software and hope to contribute to that effort. I manufacture and sell knuckle couplers in my spare time as Sergent Engineering and I recently placed my coupler designs in the public domain to ensure long term availability. I wish more companies would do the same rather than just letting their specialty products die. I'm also excited about the 3D printing conversations taking place. I have been 3D printing and investment casting couplers for about 15 years. I have often wished I could design trackwork in something like Templot and then 3D print it. I think technology is finally to the point where that is practical. Pleasure to meet you, Frank |

Hello Frank, Nice to read your introductory speech. I model in both british and US areas. It is great with US stock to be able to use coupling systems that are both visually correct and capable of proper hands off auto-coupling. On the british side you have to make a choice between the two - scale links for best effect or one of the auto designs for hands off operation. Hope you enjoy your Templot adventure. Rob |
