Here is a summary of the changes in Templot update version 223c
, released 19th August 2019.
1. make simple link
There is a new way to create a link track between existing templates:
"Simple" means making a tangential alignment at the template boundaries, similar to the result when clipping together items of set-track.
This function creates a template linking from the current peg location on the control template, to make a tangential join with the selected background template, and adjusts the background template to fit:
A simple tangential link is suitable for use in yards and sidings at low speeds. When a smooth flowing connection is needed for fast running lines, it is better to use use the make transition link
For more explanation about the difference between these two functions, see:
For more about creating a simple link, see:
When using maps as a background guide to track planning, it is sometimes difficult to see the track templates over the map:
Converting to a low-contrast image on a mid-grey background, and/or a negative image, can help a lot:
When working zoomed-in, the difference is obvious:
These effects can be done in any graphics editor program, but now also directly in Templot. By mixing low-contrast and/or negative you should be able to get the optimum viewing to match the trackpad colour scheme in use, and not distract from seeing the track templates clearly.
The negative function can be reversed by simply repeating it, but the low-contrast function can't be reversed. Templot therefore makes a hidden backup of the picture shape so that you can delete the new one and go back to try again, if you wish:
3. make the control
This is a frequently used item on a background template's pop-up menu. I have changed it to MAKE THE CONTROL to be easier to spot. But more than that, you can now do CTRL
+click on a background template to do make the control
instantly without needing the menu. This is a great time saver -- providing you can remember to use it.
The program size
slider can sometimes get in the way or otherwise be annoying. You can now right
-click on the ?
icon to dismiss it from the screen:
To get it back you would need to restart Templot.
Not everyone likes the bold timbering to show the most recently stored background template. It can be turned off in the background details
dialog, but for faster access and easier to find I have now included the setting on the trackpad
Plus a few other maintenance changes to fix bugs, etc.
