click member name to view archived imagesview images in gallery view images as slides 		With the Southern track plan 95% sorted, we turned our attention to what needs to preceed it, something a lot simpler in concept as a starter layout in P4.

We decided to base it on a small part of the Harton electric railway. The high Staithes in particular. The track plan for which is very simple, arrival, run-round and departure.

To add a bit more operational interest the following was added:
  • A viaduct across the left hand side, which has the Tyneside electric on top.
  • A line dropping down to level with the dockside, which joins at a wagon turntable - this won't be used very often as it is envisaged it is a limited use access for recovery of coal dropped by the staithes.
  • A simple dock line on the dock.
  • a line branching off just after the viaduct going towards an off scene second staithes (by the 50s-60s the staithes were just singular, but the maps show at least two, and at one time 3.
There is still some tidying up to do. Originally I drew the plan with A5 points (which is how it is over on the Scalefour forum), but I had a think and have redrawn them as A6.5 to ease the sharpness a bit whilst keeping the prototypical cramped tight feel the real Harton seems to have from photos and the small amount of video on YouTube.
Stock will be:
  • Harton No.2 and No.10 - 0-4-0WE from the Judith Edge kit
  • also No.13-15 from the other Harton Judith Edge kit.
  • Tyneside 2EPB from replica parts x2
  • E68000 from replica parts
  • Some form of dock loco, 0-4-0 probably, possibly a RSH design
  • Possibly a 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 Diesel Electric loco
  • Various 4 wheel hoppers of 20t and 21t size, with a small number of others.
