Hello all
after a long break, I've come back- a few hours with Templot last night and 90% of it has come back to me.

I've found a nice little project, but it has flat bottom rail/ turnouts. I remember reading Martin's comments that the geometry is different (to me it looks the same, but I would like to get it right). NB this area was relaid early/mid 1970s and I know FB has changed since then.

Could anyone kindly point me to any information online? I don't want to ask anyone to repeat what has undoubtedly already been written, but my searches have come to nought.

Also, does anyone have any experience with the Peco Pandrol clips? I know they're overscale and in any case not exactly what was there at the time, but close enough.

Many thanks for any suggestions. Perhaps I need to take lessons in search engines.

Derek

Hello Derek,

Others with more knowledge will have to comment on the turnout geometry.

The Peco Pandrol clip are overscale as you say but I think they look quite good. They do slide chairs to match but you will need to slice the normal chairs up for checkrails and the crossing part. You may wish to add some PCB sleepers to critical areas and solder the rails.

The biggest issue for me with flat bottom UK track is that Peco have discontinued the IL-115 rail which was the only one I could find that had the correct head width. Everybody elses is too skinny as I suspect they were designed for HO scale. Even the ones sold by the EM and S4 societies are wrong. If you go with the narrower head you need gauges with a correspondingly narrower slot for the rail head. I think DCC Concepts do them but I just made mine.

Peco do code 83, which fits the Pandrol clips. I don't think other code 82 rail will fit the clips due to the foot being too wide.

Currently engaged in anunusual project which is not UK related, so I don't needto worry too Much. Sorry about predictive text!

Thanks Gentlemen.

I've found the page I was looking for by accident last night.
topic 2800

And as a bonus, this one.
http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/15585-flat-bottom-sc/

It doesn't give all the answers, but I think now I know the questions and shall possibly have better luck on a search engine.

PS I've ordered some 83 rail and Pandrols, so I will see what happens.

Thanks again.
