It may have been asked before but is there any technical reason why Templot couldn't be a browser based, platform agnostic, program?

Wouldn't this require a root and branch rewrite? Wouldn't this require a web based server with associated costs?  Wouldn't this increase support requirements? Just a few thoughts :D

It very well might. The question was just to see if the subject had been raised. It came to mind after seeing some online CAD solutions.

Ian Bunch wrote: It may have been asked before but is there any technical reason why Templot couldn't be a browser based, platform agnostic, program?Hi Ian,

All things are possible. But writing for the web is hard work because everything is done at arm's length through the web browser or mobile app. And not all browsers are equal. Or devices -- folks use apps on mobile phones, tablets, desktop computers, TV, and no doubt many more in the future. The whole thing is a minefield.

It won't be me doing it, I have plenty to get on with on Templot as it stands.

But most of the Templot code, including all the maths stuff, is available open-source:

 https://sourceforge.net/projects/opentemplot/

So if someone wants to re-write it for the web, they can. How about you? :)

cheers,

Martin.

Funny you should say that... I'd like to have a go. Perhaps it's something that could be developed in tandem with the open source version?

Sure, but at present the activity on open-source Templot3 has reverted to nil.

Do you want to see the T3 topics? See:
